God’s plan, through chemo
Good evening everyone. I am so grateful that God kept Emerson safe and guarded this weekend. No more fevers or other issues.
Today was a new day and Dr.V is back on service. So we knew we would potentially have some sort of plan.
Before I get into the details, I did say I would share with you his bellos counts. The team was a bit baffled at his numbers when we came in with the fevers. The reason being, that there was an assumption that his numbers (specifically WBC: white blood cells) would be high.
As for the reason as why his numbers look the way they do
*reminder: blast are immature cells
Currently his blood is showing
⬇️WBC: this has actually dropped significantly from labs take two days prior
⬇️Hg/Hct
⬇️Platelets
⬇️Blast
✳️now if you recall the bone marrow: where all your blood cell lines are derived was about 60% with blast.
Now with the bone marrow high in blast, if by God’s Grace there was true recovery (leukemia going away) than those above numbers would be going up and more stable, not dropping. In their current state he is becoming pancytopenic
✳️Pancytopenia is a condition that occurs when a person has low counts for all three types of blood cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Pancytopenia is usually due to a problem with the bone marrow that produces the blood cells.
Most likely the bone marrow is packed with blast (immature white blood cell lineage) and not producing any mature cells.
So what’s the plan? Well here it is. 15 DAYS OF CHEMOTHERAPY!
What?
I know, I mean that seems like forever. But let me rewind back a bit. You see the entire course of chemo has been sort of adjusted for Mac. As you remember he had brain involvement therefore they modified the chemo a bit. Well by Gods’a Grace the imagine of his head and the fluid analyzed has been free of leukemia. So they are going to start an induction today.
Again a total of 15 days
✅first 5 will just be one chemo medication, that runs over one hour. Mac will be given zofran (anti-nausea)
✅followed by a 10 day course of chemo . There will be three medicines. Emerson actually had this combo, but chemo ‘a’ was high dosed. This round it would be smaller doses over a longer period of time. Mac also had the hardest times with this combo during his second round.
Chemo a: twice a day for the ten days
Chemo b: once a day for five days
Chemo c: once a day for three days
So are we ready! Yes!
Thank you Lord for a plan. We know that despite plans of man you are always in control. The next days, weeks may seem daunting but we know that you are here with us always. Protect Emerson’s body, as these medicines poor into his system may they attack the cells that are harming him. Give him strength and endurance, allow his body to rest when needed. We trust you and we love you. In Jesus name we pray, amen
Thank you Father, God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth! We are certain that you are in control. We know Emerson is in your hands. Thank you because there is a plan. Nothing escapes your hands. We lift up Emerson before you. You have empowered us with your Holy Spirit and He guides us to pray according to your will. We declare divine protection over Emerson's life, that this treatment will be effective, will attack and root out the cells that are harming him. May his body be filled with the strength he needs through this process. We also lift Emerson's parents before you. They trust amd know that you love their son and and that you have a plan and purpose for Mac that will glorify your name. Please bring your peace to their hearts, peace that surpasses all understanding and that only you can give.
